Instructions for
Night Guards
USING YOUR NIGHT GUARD
A custom night guard helps protect your teeth, gum tissue, and jaw from damage caused by clenching and grinding (bruxism). Proper use and care will extend the life of your guard, your teeth, and will help keep your mouth healthy.
Wear your night guard every night while sleeping, or as directed by your dentist. Gently place the night guard over your teeth and seat into place using finger pressure. Do not force it or bite down hard to seat it into place. It should fit snugly, but comfortably. If your night guard feels uncomfortable, loose, painful, or is making specific teeth sore, please contact our office for an adjustment.
CARING FOR YOUR NIGHT GUARD
Always keep your night guard in its case and in a safe place when you are not wearing it. Make sure the case is ventilated or leave it open until the guard dries completely.

Do not expose your night guard to excessive heat (i.e. a hot car, hot water, dishwasher). Heat will distort the plastic and could the night guard.

Make sure to keep your night guard away from pets (pets will chew on the plastic).

Never eat anything while wearing your night guard. It is okay to drink water while wearing your guard, but be sure to remove it if you drink other beverages. Food and certain beverages may be acidic or contain sugar which may cause cavities or harm your teeth. Eating and drinking may also stain or damage the material of your night guard.

Always brush your night guard when you brush your teeth. Do not brush your night guard with toothpaste because it is abrasive and can scratch the material. Brush your guard with plain water or non-scented dish soap and rinse thoroughly.

For a more thorough clean, use denture cleaning tablets once or twice a week. You can find these products at most stores in the toothpaste aisle. Follow the instructions on the package. Please bring your guard to your dental appointments so we can clean it in the ultrasonic cleaner.
